StoneCrest Medical Center Honors Nurse with Nightingale Award

May 25, 2010 - StoneCrest Medical Center has honored registered nurse, Sherry Capps, with the 2010 Florence Nightingale Legacy award.  The annual award is presented during National Nurses Week to a StoneCrest nurse that exemplifies Nightingale’s achievements and contributions to direct patient care.

Sherry was presented with a statuette modeled after Florence Nightingale and a cash prize. Recipients are nominated for the Florence Nightingale Award by numerous sources including patients, colleagues, physicians and other health care workers. Award nominees must be licensed as a registered nurse and demonstrate excellence in direct patient care.  Award recipients are selected by a committee comprised of the nursing leadership team and previous award recipients.

Sherry has served as a registered nurse for fifteen years and was also the recipient of the 2010 Medical Staff Recognition award.  Nominees commented that “Sherry is passionate about nursing and always puts the patient first.”  Ellen McCluggage, Chief Nursing Officer at StoneCrest, said “our standards for quality patient care are exceptionally high, and Sherry consistently meets or exceeds these standards.”

Sherry receives the award at a special time as the nursing profession celebrates 2010 as The International Year of the Nurse.  2010 marks the centennial year of the death of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
